This encounter alone made my trip to Etosha worthwhile. This is a very rare sighting of a leopard in the open. I’ve seen them before, but they are usually high up in a tree and difficult to photograph. Leopards are generally active at night and we were very lucky to come across this individual as the sun began to drop.

Lions and hyaenas are known to attack leopards, so they will always be alert for threats when in the open.
